Rejvíz on the Pells Raw gravel bike

My friend and talented photographer Šimon and I set off through the beautiful landscape of the Jeseníky mountains, the land of shepherd Gill. Our goal was Rejvíz, home to the enchanting mossy lakes. We planned a total distance of about 130 km with 2,460 m of elevation gain. We took 8 hours to complete it—at a very relaxed pace.

We kicked things off after a hearty breakfast in Úvalno near Krnov. Following mostly gravel roads, we passed through Lichnov (I recommend a quick stop for ice cream). Our route continued through Nové Heřminovy and Kunov, where the terrain started to roll gently.

After a longer climb, we were rewarded with breathtaking views nearly all the way to Anenský vrch in Andělská Hora, where we took a break in the shade of the Church of St. Anne.

From there, it was a pleasant descent to Vrbno pod Pradědem. And then came the real climb—up to Rejvíz. I won’t lie. It’s a long and steady ascent.

The large moss lake itself is a remnant from the Ice Age. It’s open to everyone, including dogs. The trail begins at a wooden cabin with souvenirs, where we paid a small entrance fee. If you follow in our footsteps, remember this is a protected nature reserve—stay on the wooden footpaths only.

You can leave your bike locked at the cabin, but I recommend giving a friendly smile to the kind staff at the small refreshment stand near the parking area, take a short break, and lock your bike at the stand for a short while.

For the return journey, we took a pleasant descent along a paved road through Mnichov back to Vrbno pod Pradědem. We stopped at the excellent Caffe 113 for a break, gathered all our strength for the final leg of the ride and continued toward Karlovice and Krasov.

Soon, we faced one last bigger climb past Brantice, riding mainly on field and forest roads until we reached Lářyšov. A final uphill along the main road brought us back to Úvalno. Along the route, we passed places affected by the devastating floods of September 2024. I have to admit, the resilience and strength of the people there truly took my breath away.

And finally, let me just say—the route is suitable for both gravel and mountain bikes. So don’t hesitate—head out on a chill ride with your family or friends. :)
